Tenerife often conjures images of golden beaches and volcanic landscapes—but if you’re craving lush greenery, misty mountains, and timeless charm, make your way to the Anaga Rural Park in the island’s northeast. This ancient laurel forest is one of the most stunning, soul-stirring places you can visit on the island—and it offers everything from quiet hiking trails to dramatic viewpoints and forgotten villages.
Let’s take a journey through the best of Anaga—complete with hidden gems, scenic stops, and a perfect beach ending.
1. Cruz del Carmen
This is the perfect starting point. Not only is there a visitor center where you can grab a map and a coffee, but the Mirador de Cruz del Carmen offers a jaw-dropping view down toward La Laguna and the north coast (on a clear day, of course—fog is part of the magic here).
2. Mirador Pico del Inglés
If you want to feel like you’re standing at the edge of the world, this is the spot. The winding drive through moss-draped roads is an adventure in itself, and once you arrive, you’ll be treated to panoramic views across both sides of the island. On clear days, you’ll see Mt. Teide floating in the clouds.
1. Sendero de los Sentidos (Path of the Senses)
Starting at Cruz del Carmen, this short trail (with three route options) is perfect for families or a quick nature immersion. Think mist, ferns, tunnels of green—and a deep breath of enchanted forest air.
2. Afur to Taganana Loop
For something more challenging and rewarding, this circular hike takes you through rugged ravines, past natural pools, and eventually down to the coastal village of Taganana. Stop here for a well-deserved plate of fresh seafood before heading back.
3. Chamorga to Faro de Anaga
Ah, Chamorga. A sleepy, stone-built village tucked into the most remote corner of the island. From here, a trail leads you through windswept ridges to the Anaga Lighthouse, where waves crash far below and the views feel otherworldly. This hike is a true hidden gem—isolated, raw, and unforgettable.
Chamorga feels like a portal back in time. There’s barely any cell signal, the road narrows to a whisper, and time slows down. Few tourists make it out here, which makes it all the more magical. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and maybe a sandwich—there are no tourist facilities here, and that’s exactly why you should go.
After a day hiking in the cloud-kissed forests, it’s time to unwind. Head back south and make a final stop at Playa de las Teresitas in San Andrés. This is Tenerife’s postcard beach—with soft golden sand imported from the Sahara and calm, turquoise water.
Treat yourself to an ice cream, kick off your shoes, and let the Atlantic breeze wash over you. There’s no better way to end your Anaga adventure.
Anaga is the kind of place that stays with you. It’s not flashy, and it’s not trying to impress. But if you’re ready to wander into the heart of the island—mist, moss, silence, and all—it will reward you with the kind of beauty that feels ancient and wild.
